Advice on food in the office

A few tips on keeping a good diet in the office.

How to eat healthy whilst working in an office environment.

Many people fall into the same daily routine when it comes to food in the office. More and more office workers are choosing to skip a proper lunch and instead eat pre-packaged snacks or sandwiches. Surprisingly a great deal of packaged sandwiches can actually be worse for you than a more satisfying meal that you could make for yourself at home. With all of this in mind here are a few tips on which foods to avoid throughout the day and which foods can improve your mood and productivity at work.

Firstly, try to avoid the vending machine altogether. Unless there is a fruit option vending machines tend to contain high fat and high sugar snacks such as crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks. Instead take in your own snacks such as low fat biscuits, fruits and nuts or seeds. This way you can stop yourself from overeating on impulse and cut down on the amount of fat and sugar you ingest every day.

Next try not to consume too much caffeine. Many people rely on coffee and tea to get them through the day but most don’t consider the amount of damage it could be doing to their health. Caffeine itself can cause concentration problems and misuse can even lead to stomach aches and migraines. However, the real unhealthy aspect of tea and coffee consumption tends to be the levels of milk and sugar that people consume in one day. Try switching to lower fat milk and sweeteners and you could be feeling healthier in no time.

Lastly, staying properly hydrated is often overlooked. Instead of opting for sugary energy drinks choose instead to make frequent visits to the water cooler. Whilst this may not seem as exciting drinking plenty of water throughout the day will not only help your overall health but also improve your focus whilst working.
