Salford’s mediacity:uk business booming
With the Salford Quays development, mediacity:uk, the first phase only one year away from full completion, it would be apt to see what this new development wil offer the UK.
mediacity:uk is a 200-acre property development in Salford, that will heavily focus on the media industry, touting itself as a ‘true community atmosphere’. It aims to become a thriving city within a city, which will be just as much about living as it is working.
Developed and managed by a partnership of Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, Peel Holdings and Salford City Council, it will house 700,000 sq ft of offices, 250,000 sq ft of HD studios including the largest one in Europe, public park and events space, 378 apartments, a 218 bed Holiday Inn, a Booths supermarket and a 2,200 space car park.
Designed around the needs of the creative and digital industries as an entity in which they can network, develop content and meet like-minded people, it plans to become home to 15,000 media professionals. There are now 25 business based inside.
Contained in the development is The Pie Factory, which accommodates three sound stages and a choice of office accommodation and has already become a creative hub for a wide range of companies.
CEO of Peel Media, Sinead Greenway said: “The expansion to accommodate more media businesses is testament to the success of The Pie Factory.
It is hard to believe that in just over three years it has transformed from a derelict food making factory to a venue where creative companies and individuals make first class content”.
By the time the media hub is built it will have had £3 billion of investment spent on it, and will become BBC’s second largest operation.
