Would you like some fresh air for your office?

Tired of the hustle and bustle of your city offices? The commute to work, the traffic, the rush to get the last decent sandwich at lunch-time… if only there was a way to get away from it all for minute… a breath of fresh air would be lovely!

Well, the National Trust have come up with a novel and rather amusing way to help us out. As they put it themselves, it is the “ultimate solution for the office-bound”.

Andrew McLaughlin, head of communications for the National Trust said about the fun, new product, “With most of us living in an urban environment and having little time to escape to the great outdoors, we thought it was about time the National Trust shared just a fraction of our copious amounts of fresh air with the nation.” (more…)

Volkswagen offices make changes for office energy efficiency

Car manufacturer Volkswagen has made significant savings by reorganising their office energy usage.

They have been working on the project to reduce their energy usage in their offices and headquarters since 2005, and it came into full effect last year. Volkswagen have reported to have made a 86% saving of energy in the last year, compared to 2005 – the equivalent of 1,400 households’ energy. Head of Group IT, Klaus Hardy Mühlec  announced the results of their hard work  at the CeBIT 2010 in Hanover. (more…)

UK companies reluctant to obey CO2 ratings’ rules

Nearly three quarters of UK companies are refusing to comply with new legislation for energy use disclosure.

A report in The Independent shows a reluctance from British companies to disclose the amount of heating and lighting they waste for commercial properties they rent out or sell.
This shows a worrying pattern that may cause the UK to miss its European Union target to reduce 20% by 2020. It is estimated that about one fifth of British emissions come from industry and commercial activity. (more…)

Funding awarded to rural office space

A converted mill in Lancashire has won funding in a Government community green make-over competition. The Rent office space office spaceoffice space and business centre in the heart of rural Lancashire was awarded part of the £500,000 funding to help introduce and install green technologies into the site.

Halton Mill, near Lancaster will benefit from the funding along with twelve other projects across the country. The money will help them to insulate the 100 year old building and install solar panels and hydro turbines. (more…)

UK companies dropping green agenda

UK companies are turning away from green policies labeling them as “no use” in the recession. The data which has been disclosed from NetRegs.gov.uk found that just 20% of SME’s plan to follow green policies in the next 12 months. Of the 7,000 companies that they surveyed, there was a drop of three quarters of companies that had a environment management system.

How to be green in the Office

Being green, we all know we should try to, but how many of us actually do? Often, it seems that small initiatives are rather inconsequential compared to the mammoth problem of global warming. However, as we know, if EVERYONE made changes to the way they act and how they consume energy, then there would be a huge overall effect.
